Chapter One Task Description
1.1 Brief Introduction to the Interpreting Task
As a high-tech company,Huawei continues to invest and innovate in the mobile phonebusiness.Huawei’s product launches have also attracted more and more attention from globalusers.It continues to take root in overseas markets and establish itself as a technology leader.Europe was once an extremely important market for Huawei.As usual,Huawei’s flagshipmobile phones are often launched in Europe and then released in China.Therefore,withoutbilingual translation,it will be difficult for foreign customers to understand Huawei’s newproducts,new features,and new technologies.In this case,the author chose the video of thelatest Huawei new product launch as a simulation.After completing the exercise of simulatedconsecutive interpretation,the author analyzed the results of this exercise and made asummary on this basis.
Every time Huawei releases a new product,it must hold a launch.So far,Huawei hassuccessfully held multiple launches,including in overseas markets.Since each of Huawei’sproducts is aimed at the global market,taking into account language factors,Huawei oftenholds new product launches abroad first.However,under the dual impact of sanctions and theepidemic,Huawei mobile phones have gradually shifted their market focus back to China.OnAugust 22,2022,Huawei announced the invitation letter officially for the 2022 autumnlaunch,announcing that on September 6,the 2022 Autumn Launch will be held.The launchwas hosted by Mr.Richard Yu,CEO of the Executive Director Terminal BG,and CEO of theIntelligent Automotive Solution BU On September 6,2022,the 2022 Huawei Mate50 seriesand the full-scenario autumn new product launch were held.The new products at the launchare Huawei Mate 50,Mate 50pro,and Mate 50 RS.

1.2 The Significance and Value of this Interpreting Task

The author has been studying interpreting for two years and has done some interpretingtraining,but most of them were focused on practicing consecutive interpretation.Productlaunches,especially electronic product launches,have not been involved.The author is aHuawei mobile phone user and is very interested in Huawei products,so she selected theHuawei Mate50 series launch as material for interpretation practice.On the one hand,theauthor wants to test her learning results over the past two years and discover the problems shehas encountered in consecutive interpreting.On the other hand,she also aims to strengthenthe specific application of consecutive interpretation techniques and lay the foundation forfuture learning.This interpretation task is for the Huawei Mate50 series product launch.Theauthor intends to use this interpretation practice to find out the difficulties and challengesfaced by such related launches and propose specific and feasible response strategies.Find outmy own shortcomings through this interpreting task,and practice more targeted exercises tomake up for them in future studies.

Chapter Two Interpretation Task Process
2.1 Pre-Interpreting
To complete the simulated consecutive interpreting of the Huawei 2022 fall launch asaccurately and fluently as possible,the author has mainly made some short-termpre-interpreting preparations.In actual interpretation,the interpreter must start preparationsfrom the day he receives the task.The more complete the better.Interpreting can only beperformed well after all task preparations have been fully completed.Before the launch,theauthor had no idea what the presenter would say.After determining the interpretation task,theauthor carried out pre-translation preparations.This interpretation task is a product launch,which will inevitably involve professional terminology.You must also have a grasp of theproduct concept and the characteristics of the Mate series products.Therefore,interpretersmust be fully prepared in this regard and have a clear understanding of the names of relatedproducts and technologies.In addition,special attention should be paid to the characteristicsof the presenter’s speech.Therefore,the author has investigated and prepared for some relatedterms that may be encountered at this Mate 50 series launch.
2.1.1 Terminology Preparation
The content of this interpretation is simulated C-E consecutive interpretation forHUAWEI’s Mate 50 series and all-scene new products launch in autumn 2022.Before thetask started,the author borrowed network resources to search for product information ofHuawei Mate series.This will bring a lot of burden to the interpreter during the interpretationprocess.Since I have no experience in interpretation related to product launches,I can onlyboldly predict the vocabulary and terminology that may be encountered in the interpretationtask.Therefore,necessary terminology preparations are also required.The interpreter watchedrelated videos of the same type of product launches to understand vocabulary related tomobile phone performance.

2.2 While-Interpreting
In order to simulate a product launch,the author invited three graduate students majoring in Englishinterpretation and two graduate students majoring in English translation as the audience.Audiences whomajored in English interpretation were chosen because these three people have a certain understanding ofinterpreting skills and have certain interpreting skills,and can evaluate the interpreters'interpretingpractices from a professional perspective.I chose two English translation majors because although they areboth English majors,the course contents of English translation and English interpreting are slightlydifferent.English translation majors themselves have a certain level of translation,but they do not haveenough understanding of the skills related to English interpretation.Therefore,two students majoring inEnglish translation were selected as the audience,mainly to allow them to evaluate the author’s movements,voices,etc.during simulated interpreting exercises.Another student was invited to help play and pause thevideo,and yet another student recorded a video simulating consecutive interpretations.The video ofHuawei’s online autumn product launch on September 6,2022,is about 136 minutes long.Since the launch is broadcast live online,completing a one-time translation is a hugechallenge,requiring the interpreter to allocate her attention and physical strength reasonably.Taking into account the complexity of consecutive interpretation,the interpreter decided torecord the entire conference into a video and planned to interpret it in stages over four days,15-20 minutes each day.This is a more reasonable and scientific distribution.Segmentedtranslation is also used to optimize simulations and reproduce realistic interpreting scenariosas accurately as possible.

This section mainly analyzes the difficulties encountered by the author in thisinterpreting task.After sorting out the recordings and notes,the author found that sheencountered the following problems in the process of interpreting.
3.1.1 Different Styles of Presenters
There were several presenters at the Huawei launch,each with a different voice,speaking speed,and speech characteristics,which resulted in a variety of speech styles.Thekeynote presenter of this new product launch is Mr.Yu Chengdong,executive director ofTerminal BG and CEO of smart car solutions.First of all,the presenter’s language isrelatively colloquial,and his speech is quite emotional,which easily leads to redundantsentences.However,EST interpretation aims to help both parties convey relevant professionalinformation to achieve communication purposes,not just conversion between languages.Therefore,in order to obtain better interpretation results,interpreters must consider adoptingsome appropriate interpretation techniques.Word-for-word translation is not easy for theaudience to understand.

Chapter Four Conclusion
4.1 Unsolved Problems
In realistic technical interpreting,both the presenter and the listener are experts in thefield or at least have some background knowledge in the field.Although this is just asimulation,interpreters also need to be fully prepared to do a good job in translation with highprofessional skills and knowledge.Insufficient preparation will cause trouble for theaudience’s understanding and even cause misunderstanding.Moreover,with the developmentand research of new technologies,many new words will appear,and the more adequate thepreparation,the easier it is for the audience to understand.Consecutive interpreting is moredifficult because it has higher requirements on the interpreter’s listening,memory,andspeaking skills.This is the first time for the author to do simulated consecutive interpretingfor so long,and I have accumulated experience in on-site interpretation,such as preparingsome scientific and technical vocabulary before translation and getting familiar with theofficial language style.When mock interpreting,the interpreter is so focused on the outcomethat it can cause physical and mental tension.
